I’m not sure if you can call what I have been doing meditation, maybe more mindfulness, or relaxation…mantras or affirmations. Regardless of what name you give it, I am trying to get myself into a parasympathetic (rest and digest) state every day. Once. For 10 minutes. In the morning…
We all start somewhere right?
I am a fairly high strung person – pretty high anxiety, perfectionist, Type A personality overall. I have gotten a LOT better at managing it over the years but in general, this is how I run. I have a feeling my cortisol is through the roof and I am constantly in fight or flight mode.
This is not good for any body, let alone a body trying to get ready to grow a human. I have read that stress can impact your hormones and we all know that mine are a mess, so trying to decrease my stress is something that I am really working on.
I have tried meditation in the past but just cannot get into it. But one thing I started doing at the beginning of January, and have surprisingly kept up, is a 10-minute relaxation before I start my workday.
Each morning I ask Google to “play meditation music for 10 minutes”. I lie on my couch, close my eyes and try to focus on my breathing and saying positive affirmations to myself such as:
- My body is healthy
- My body heals itself
- I will ovulate
- I will be pregnant
I also visualize myself being pregnant (is this weird? I can literally SEE it). I imagine telling others, how excited I will be, how I will look with a baby bump.
I end these 10 minutes feeling really good and hopeful. I also really like the fact that the music is different every day.
Then real life starts…but at least it is something. I try to remember these feelings through the day as well – some days this is easier than others.
Do you have a meditation or mindfulness practice? I’d love to hear. Let me know on IG @singleandsperm
